Global-e integration

Expand your global reach by integrating your Global-e account with Shippit to manage international checkout, compliance, and logistics.
Updated 3 months ago

If you have a Global-e account, you can integrate it directly with your Shippit account. Global-e is an end-to-end cross-border platform that handles checkout, payments, duties, taxes, shipping, and returns. This allows you to provide a localised shopping experience for your customers and manage your global operations from one dashboard.

This article covers how you can use Shippit with your own Global-e account. If you don't have a Global-e account, get in touch with your Shippit account manager and ask them about the different options available to you.

For more information about shipping internationally, including incoterms, and calculating duties and taxes, see the international shipping collection.

Why use Global-e?

Our Global-e integration helps you expand into over 200 markets. Global-e manages the heavy lifting of international sales, including local checkout, payments, compliance, and returns.

It allows you to offer a fully localised experience, with support for over 100 currencies and 30 languages. It can also acts as the merchant of record (MoR) in many markets, handling risk and compliance on your behalf.

Is Global-e right for me?

Global-e is a good fit for you if you:

  • Want a turnkey solution to expand internationally

  • Are a large brand or retailer planning to globalise rapidly

  • Want to enter many new markets with fewer custom builds

  • Prefer to outsource the complexity of cross-border operations, compliance, and risk

  • Want to provide a fully localised end-to-end experience for your customers, including checkout, payments, and returns

All Global-e orders must be booked using the Shippit APIs. You can't book Global-e orders using the Shippit web interface. For more information about constructing an order payload for Global-e orders, see the Developer Guide.

What checkout options do I have?

Global-e provides a fully localised checkout experience. This includes support for over 100 currencies, 30+ languages, and more than 150 local payment methods.

You can configure the checkout to:

  • Offer pre-payment of all import duties and taxes for a guaranteed landed cost

  • Localise messaging and payment options for each specific market

  • Include local returns options

How are duties and taxes calculated and paid?

Global-e simplifies billing by acting as the merchant of record (MoR) in many markets. This means Global-e handles the import processing, tax registration, and currency risk.

Here's how the billing generally works:

  1. Your customer pays at checkout. Global-e calculates the entire transaction value, including the goods value, guaranteed landed cost, and all duties and taxes.

  2. Global-e manages payment. As the MoR, Global-e processes the payment. They deduct duties, taxes, and fees, and remit the remainder to the merchant.

  3. You book the order in Shippit. You use Shippit to generate labels and manage the logistics, while Global-e manages the financial compliance and cross-border payment flow.

Setting up a BYO Global-e integration

For BYO Global-e setups, we strongly recommend a three-way call between you, Shippit, and Global-e before going live. This ensures carrier selection, billing, and logistics are aligned. Your Shippit account manager can coordinate this.

If you use Global-e for all international lanes, you can set DDP as your global default. If you only use Global-e for specific lanes, you need lane-specific incoterm rules. Talk to your Shippit account manager to get this set up.

Integration type compatibility

BYO Global-e works with these integration types:

  • Shopify: Supported natively with no additional configuration required.

  • Custom integrations: Supported using the Shippit APIs. See the Developer Guide for the additional fields required.

  • Other Shippit-owned integrations: Check with your Shippit account manager.

  • Externally-owned integrations: Your integration partner must build support. Contact the partner directly.

Requirements

To set up your BYO Global-e account, contact your Shippit account manager with these details:

  • Your Global-e GUID for both staging and production.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: For BYO Global-e setups, we explicitly recommend a three-way call between the merchant, Shippit, and Global-e to ensure everything is ready before you ship.

Account settings

To avoid customs delays, ensure you have configured fallback values in your Shippit International Settings for:

  • HS Code: The tariff code for your products.

  • Country of Origin: Where your products are manufactured.

  • MID Code: Required for all shipments to the United States.

These act as defaults when individual orders do not include this information. For more information about configuring your duties and taxes settings, see the default international settings article.
