Configuring the Shippit Connect app for BigCommerce

After integrating your BigCommerce cart with Shippit, altering a few simple settings can automate several aspects of your fulfilment and order management processes. This article will provide an overview of:

  • Shipping method mapping
  • Automated and manual order sync, including:
    • Authority to Leave
    • Order sync requirements
  • Automated order fulfilment

We recommend focusing on three core areas as part of your initial setup: order sync, shipping method mapping and fulfilment.

Prior to configuration, please make sure that you have:

  • Successfully installed the Shippit app in BigCommerce
  • Completed your integration with Shippit
  • Have an updated Webhook URL available within your integration settings (beginning with https://connect.shippit...)

Always make sure to click Update after altering any settings, and if you are experiencing difficulty with anything listed above please contact our team at [email protected]

Shipping Method Mapping

In order to automatically sync orders to the correct shipping service type (Express, Standard or Priority), your Shipping Rules must be mapped to the appropriate service type within the Order Sync tab in your Shippit Connect settings.

For example, this store provides Standard shipping in Australia, express shipping to New Zealand, and Standard shipping for any other international orders:

These methods within the zones above can now be mapped to the correct carrier service type in Shippit. This means that all standard shipping zone orders will automatically be allocated to a standard shipping service, while all express shipping zone orders will automatically be allocated to an express shipping service.

If you choose to process a shipping method like click and collect outside of Shippit, leave that method out of your mapping and enable the option shown above with a blue checkmark. This will stop any orders that are not mapped from syncing with Shippit.

Specific carriers can also be mapped to specific Shipping Methods, but our team recommends using Shippit's Allocation Algorithm to find either the fastest or most cost-effective carrier automatically.

Order Sync

By default, Shippit will be configured to automatically import any new orders that enter your BigCommerce account once orders are Awaiting Fulfilment. Within the Order Sync tab in your integration settings or the Shippit Connect app in BigCommerce, automatic order sync can be turned off and your order sync settings can also be adjusted.

Auto-Sync and Manual Sync

By default, Shippit Connect will automatically import all orders from BigCommerce as soon as these orders enter the Auto-Sync Status you have designated above.

If you would prefer to use a manual order sync (preferred by Shippit customers relying primarily on pre-orders or subscription-based orders), manual order sync can be accessed through the Shippit Connect app in BigCommerce.

Simply click Import Orders to import all orders that are currently in your selected Auto-Sync status, or import by Order Number or Created Date.

To manage pre-orders, our team recommends keeping Auto-Sync ON, but designating that only orders in the Awaiting Shipment status be synced. Pre-orders can be kept in an Awaiting Fulfilment status until product is ready to be shipped.

Order Sync Requirements

Shippit requires an email address for all orders entering our platform, which means that an order that is missing an email address will generate an error upon attempting to sync with your Shippit store.

To avoid this error, please fill in a valid Default Email to attach to any order without a pre-populated email:

Our team strongly recommends using product dimensions and syncing these dimensions with Shippit to obtain the most accurate shipping quoting possible, as most carriers will charge for the greater value between volumetric and dead weight.

Authority to Leave and Delivery Comments

Since Authority to Leave (or ATL) is not a standard checkout field in BigCommerce, our extension uses text within your Customer Comments to sync Authority to Leave instructions to Shippit.  Syncing these comments is particularly important if you are leveraging reduced shipping rates with Authority to Leave (or ATL).

To leverage this feature, instruct customers to write either of the following in Customer Comments at checkout:

  • ATL
  • Authority to Leave

Automatic Fulfilment

After completing the steps outlined in our integration article, a Webhook URL should appear in the Integrations settings page, like this:

If not, the integration was not successful. Please try following our steps again, or contact us at [email protected] and make sure to include all relevant details.

This webhook URL is a link used by our platform to share tracking details and fulfilment information with BigCommerce. Fulfilment details (including partial or complete fulfilment) are visible in the order's history:

Your Shippit Connect app will also show a comprehensive history of all orders fulfilled, including the items fulfilled in Shippit, the carrier used for shipping, a link to the tracking page for any fulfilled order and any associated errors.

Automated fulfilment may also be disabled at any time in the Shipment Sync tab in Shippit Connect.
