As part of our ongoing work to continually improve Shippit’s security, we are requesting our customers to switch to our latest, recommended mechanism for authentication. As such, we are retiring our previous method and requesting our customers to switch to our preferred mechanism before 2 May, 2021.
What does this mean for you?
Currently, there are two ways to connect to Shippit via the API. The now deprecated method, and the now standardised method this guide will take you through setting up. If you are on the deprecated method, it is important to make the required changes before 2 May 2021. If you do not update your integration by 2 May 2021, you will not be able to generate labels, quote, book and track orders until you’ve made the necessary updates.
This guide is made for those with some technical knowledge in regards to how they connect via Shippit’s API. If this doesn’t describe you, it may be best to bring a technical person into this conversation.
Who does this affect?
Keeping your integration up-to-date is important to ensure that you are getting the best setup possible, and that there is no disruption to your service.
If you are using an integration with Shippit (e.g. WooCommerce, Magento), you may need to update your integration. This process varies depending on the integration, so be sure to follow the update steps required for your Shippit integration. Some integrations such as Shopify do not need any action - make sure to review the article if this change is applicable to you.
If you are using a custom integration - you will need to update how you authenticate your Shippit API calls through this article.
Will the new method change how I make quote/order/label calls?
Besides updating the authentication method, no, there will be no change to how you make quote/order/label calls. The standard JSON payload as advised in our Developer Documentation will be sufficient.

Why are we making this change?
At Shippit we believe security should be of the highest concern. When we saw that our security could be improved, we have decided as a business to make the transition. This mechanism for authentication further protects you and your details - which is why we have rolled out the update to all customers.
