Use your own fleet for standard delivery

How to set up and manage your own fleet for standard delivery within Shippit
Updated 2 minutes ago

What is Own Fleet for standard delivery?

Own Fleet for standard delivery lets you surface your own fleet as a carrier in Shippit, so you can quote, book, track, and manage your own-fleet deliveries alongside your third-party carriers.

Own Fleet for standard delivery is set up as a BYO carrier called Own Fleet Standard — see the Understanding carrier integrations article for more on how BYO carriers work.

⚠️ Important: Own Fleet for standard delivery is available if you use NowGo — Shippit's own fleet and driver management platform — to power your own fleet.

For an introduction to NowGo, see the NowGo for fleet management article.

What Own Fleet for standard delivery covers

Own Fleet for standard delivery maps to Shippit's standard service level — 3-5-day delivery — for domestic Australian shipments.

It doesn't cover express or on-demand deliveries, or international shipments. For same-day or on-demand deliveries with your own fleet, see Use your own fleet for on-demand delivery.

💡 NOTE: Your actual coverage also depends on the areas your own fleet services and when your drivers are rostered on. If a delivery falls outside where or when your fleet operates, Shippit won't return a quote for it — see Getting set up below for how this is configured.

What you can ship

Own Fleet for standard delivery supports cartons, satchels, and pallets. Each booking is treated as a single shipment, but can include multiple articles — individual items within the shipment, each with its own label.

Parcel types supported:

  • Carton (default)

  • Satchel

  • Pallet

Dangerous goods are accepted, as long as they're correctly declared and carry a dangerous goods code. For how to package and declare your goods safely, see the Recommended packaging guidelines article.

Costs and insurance

Own Fleet for standard delivery doesn't include complimentary insurance. If you want cover for loss or damage, you can enable Shippit Transit Protection — see the About Transit Protection article for more information.

Getting set up

Before you start

Before Own Fleet quotes can be generated for your orders, a few things need to be set up in your NowGo account. Here's what's needed, and where to set each one up:

  • An active NowGo account for your business — if you don't have one yet, contact your Customer Success Manager directly.

  • A NowGo channel covering your pickup area — see What are channels?

  • At least one active driver configured for your channel — see Add and edit driver accounts

  • Recurring Shift Rules (RSR), so the system knows when your drivers are available — see Recurring shift rules

Connect NowGo to your Shippit account

The connection between your NowGo account and Shippit is set up by the Shippit configuration team. To get started, you need to provide your NowGo credentials so the team can connect your account.

Email the Shippit configuration team with these details from your NowGo account (found in your NowGo settings):

  • NowGo username and password

  • NowGo account ID

  • NowGo API token

Our team reviews your details and configures your account, usually within 1-3 business days. Once your account is connected, the team runs a test quote to confirm that NowGo can service your orders.

Turn on Own Fleet Standard as a carrier in Shippit

Once the configuration team has connected your account, you can turn Own Fleet Standard (the carrier name for Own Fleet for standard delivery) on in your carrier settings.

  1. Log in to your Shippit account.

  2. Open the drop-down menu in the top right of your screen, and click Settings.

  3. Click Carriers to go to the carrier settings for your store.

  4. Under Standard service level, find Own Fleet Standard, and toggle the switch on.

For more information about managing your carrier mix, see the Carrier allocation article.

Labels and tracking

Labels

Own Fleet labels are generated by Shippit. Each label is an A6 PDF that includes:

  • Your merchant logo

  • Consignment details

  • A Deliver to block

  • An Authority to leave banner, if you've set Authority to Leave when booking the order

  • A barcode and QR code for the article label number

For more information about printing your labels, see the Understanding shipping labels article.

Tracking and proof of delivery

As your driver progresses through the delivery, status updates – including proof of delivery – flow back into Shippit automatically, so you can see when a job is with the driver and when it's completed. Learn more about how to track a delivery.

Cancelling orders

You can cancel an Own Fleet order directly from your Shippit account at any stage before it is dispatched. When you cancel, Shippit sends a cancellation request to NowGo.

If you need to reassign an order to a different driver or shift, you can do this in your NowGo dashboard.

Troubleshooting

This section contains information about some common issues you might encounter with Own Fleet for standard delivery. If you can't find an answer to your question here, contact Shippit support for assistance.

Own Fleet isn't returning any quotes for my orders. Own Fleet only returns quotes where your configured shifts can service the delivery. If you're not seeing any quotes, check that you have Recurring Shift Rules (RSR) configured, at least one active driver, and a NowGo channel covering your pickup area — all set up in your NowGo account. Contact NowGo support if you need help configuring any of these.

My addresses aren't being accepted. Own Fleet requires accurate pickup and delivery addresses. Double check that your customer and pickup details are complete and correct.

I can't see Own Fleet Standard in my carrier settings. The connection between your NowGo account and Shippit is set up by the Shippit configuration team. If Own Fleet Standard isn't showing in your carrier list, your account might not be connected yet — contact Shippit support to check the status of your activation.

A driver couldn't finish their shift or deliver an order. If a driver is unable to finish their shift or deliver an order for any reason (e.g. running out of time), you can either:

  • Reassign the order to a different driver or shift within the NowGo dashboard

  • Cancel the order in the NowGo dashboard, then recreate it in Shippit to reschedule it with a different shift or driver.
