Use product condition rules to select or exclude carriers based on attributes of the specific items in the order. This is useful when different product types require specialised handling, or when you have negotiated exclusive rates for certain items.
For example, you can allocate an order to a specialist carrier if the product line is fragile, or you can exclude a carrier from any order where the product price exceeds $250.
This article discusses how to create smart shipping rules based on product conditions, such as product line information, or prices. For more information about smart shipping rules, see the smart shipping rules article.
Create a smart shipping rule with a product condition
Before you start creating rules, make sure you have turned on smart shipping rules in your Shippit account. For more information, see the creating rules article.
You can create product-based rules on any of these conditions:
Condition | Description | Example |
Product line ID | The product line associated with a product. This is not case sensitive. |
|
Product price | The retail value of a product. |
|
Product SKU | Stock keeping unit. This is not case sensitive. |
|
Product title | The title given to a product. This is not case sensitive. |

Creating a product-based rule
Log in to your Shippit account, and navigate to Settings β Company Rules β Carrier Allocation. For store rules, navigate to Settings β Store Rules β Carrier Allocation.
Click Create new rule.
For company rules, select which stores the rule applies to, or select all stores.
Give your rule a name. For example, Fragile items.
Create the conditions for your rule:
In the When this happens field, select Product SKU.
In the Is field, select Contains to enter part of an SKU that indicates fragile items.
In the Enter value field, type the letters or numbers in your product SKUs that indicate a fragile item. For example, FI matches any SKU that contains FI.
Click Add another condition, and create these conditions:
Select And to ensure that this rule is applied in addition to the previous rule.
In the When this happens field, select Parcel dead weight.
In the Is field, select Less than to enter an upper weight limit.
In the first Enter value fields, type the upper weight in kilograms. For example, 10.
Select the carriers you you want to allocate these items to:
In the Do this field, select Allocate if serviceable
In the Select carriers field, check the carrier or carriers you want to allocate these orders to.
Click Create to save your rule and return to the rules page.
Activate your rule by clicking the rule toggle to the on position.
