What to do if you received your delivery, and some things are missing

Updated this week

If you have received part of your order, but not all of it, it could be that some of your order has been shipped from a different warehouse location, or is coming with another carrier.

This article discusses some of the reasons why parts of your order could be delayed, and discusses what to do to find out where the rest of your order is.

Reasons why orders might get split up

It's not uncommon for orders to be split into separate shipments, so don't worry if you've received some items but not others.

The most common reason for this to happen is that your order is being shipped from multiple locations. Retailers sometimes store their products in multiple warehouses, or they might ship directly from their physical store locations. If you've ordered items that are located in different places, they are usually sent out separately. For example, you might order a shirt that is located in a warehouse in Melbourne, and a belt that is being sent from a store in Sydney.

Even if all of your items are being shipped from the same location, they could come at different times. For example, you might have ordered a pair of sunglasses that are ready to dispatch straight away, with a pair of shoes that are arriving in the warehouse in a day or two, and will be dispatched to you later on.

Another cause for split orders is that the retailer you purchased from uses a range of different carriers, and the items in your order have been assigned to two or more different carriers. This can happen if you have items of different weights, or if one of the items is considered a dangerous good, which can include medicines, batteries, aerosols, and other risky items. For example, you might order a piece of furniture, which would be shipped with a big and bulky carrier, along with some linen which would be sent with a regular carrier, and some furniture polish, which might need to go with a carrier specialising in dangerous goods.

What to do if you are missing items from your order

First of all, check your email and find the order confirmation from the retailer. This should include information about the items you have ordered, and could include information about when each item is being shipped, from which location, and with which carrier.

When the first item of your order is shipped, you receive an email or a text message from Shippit that includes tracking information. Click the tracking link in this notification to get the information about this first part of your order, as well as the outstanding items in your order that are coming later on.

If you're still concerned, or if you haven't received all of your items within the time frame given, contact the retailer directly. They will be able to provide you with more information about the status of your order, or organise to resend any missing items.
