Securing pets for deliveries

How to make sure drivers can access your property safely

Updated over a month ago

It's important that delivery drivers can access your property safely to deliver your order. If you have pets, there are some things you can do to make sure that the driver can get in and out of your property, and deliver your package with no trouble.

If a driver decides not to enter your property, they can take your goods to a collection point, or take it back to the depot. If this happens, check the missed a delivery article for things you can do.

If you have provided authority to leave without a signature, the driver leaves your goods in the safest area they can find. Make sure your pets cannot access items that have been left, so you don't end up with any nasty surprises. For more information, see the Authority to leave article.

Things you can do

The most important thing you can do is secure your pets. Make sure your pets are contained in a safe area where they can't interact with the delivery driver. This could be a separate room, a crate, or a secure fenced area in your yard.

If you're concerned about your pets, you can contact the carrier directly and give them special instructions. Alternatively, you might be able to include special shipping instructions when you purchase your goods from a retailer. This could include a warning that you have pets, where to leave the package, or how to access a secure area.

You could consider installing a secure delivery box, or designating a specific area where packages can be left safely out of reach of pets. Make sure you provide instructions for drivers either in your order details, or on the delivery box itself.

A clear and visible sign informing delivery drivers about your pets can serve as a helpful reminder. You can include instructions like "Please leave package in the box" or "Dog on premises, please do not enter."

Make sure your pets are well-trained to stay away from the door or in a designated area when someone arrives. This is great for delivery drivers, but also safer for your pet at all times.

Consider installing a smart doorbell or security camera. Many of these devices allow you to see and communicate with the delivery driver remotely, giving you the opportunity to secure your pets or provide instructions in real-time.
