Unmanifested freight charges

Find out what an unmanifested or late manifest charge is, and how you can avoid them

Updated this week

You need to have order information ready for a carrier when they come to pick up. Usually, you would provide them with a manifest from your Shippit account. If you don't have your orders manifested and ready when the carrier comes to pickup your goods, you can be charged an unmanifested or late manifest fee.

โš ๏ธ Important: Make sure you have booked your orders and prepared a manifest at least thirty minutes before the carrier picks up your orders, to avoid additional charges

This article discusses unmanifested and late manifest charges. For more general information about carrier pickups, see the Understanding pickups article.

Late manifests and unmanifested freight

A late manifest charge occurs when a carrier comes to pick up your parcel, and you have not yet manifested the items for them. This can happen if you have labelled the goods in your Shippit account, but have not yet manifested them.

If you receive a charge for a late manifest, or for unmanifested freight, it usually shows the time of first scan, and the actual manifest. Some carriers scan items for the first time at the depot, while other carriers scan items for the first time when they collect them. Make sure you have booked your orders with the carrier at least thirty minutes before the driver arrives to pick up your orders.

You might also be charged these fees if the destination details are electronically unavailable, which includes unreadable or unscannable labels or QR codes, no manifest information at the point of delivery, or if delivery of the parcel is impeded in some way.

Avoiding late manifest charges

The best way to avoid late manifest fees is to book and manifest your items at least half an hour before the carrier picks up your orders.

If you have a regular pickup time arranged with your carriers, you can manifest all the orders for the carrier together, at least half an hour before your driver is due for pickup.

If you have irregular pickups, it is best to manifest your order as soon as they have been labelled. When you print the label and apply it to the package, book and manifest the order immediately so that it is ready for pickup when the carrier arrives. Best practice is to not have anything in your freight staging area that is not manifested and ready for pickup.

If you need to cancel an order that has been manifested, you can do this from your Shippit account. You can cancel an order up until the point that it is marked as In transit. If you have an order that hasn't been handed to a carrier, but is marked as In transit, contact Shippit support to cancel the order.
