Surcharges
Charges that can be identified at the time of booking are included in the API quote at the time of booking however additional surcharges may apply for undeclared goods or special goods. For more information, see the Carrier Surcharge Article.
Fallback rates
StarTrack API outages are rare, but to help you plan for the unexpected, you can configure fallback rates in your Shippit account. In the event of downtime or latency, your account can fall back to these preconfigured rates so that you can continue shipping.
These rates can be applied to each StarTrack service you use, across StarTrack Express and Premium.
If you mainly use StarTrack, you can choose to use the fallback rate whenever there is an outage. Alternatively, if you use multiple carriers, you can choose to use your existing allocation rules, and only apply the fallback rate if no other carriers return a quote.
To start using StarTrack fallback rates, contact your Shippit account manager, or the Shippit configuration team with this information:
The fallback price you want to use, such as a dollar amount per parcel, or percentage markup.
The estimated delivery time to apply when the fallback rate is used
Automated fuel surcharges for rate cards
If you are using your StarTrack account with Shippit using internal rate cards, you need to update your fuel surcharge each month. If you prefer, you can opt in to automated fuel surcharge updates instead. This means that your rate cards are automatically updated when the fuel surcharge changes, and your StarTrack quotes stay synchronised, without monthly uploads or ongoing maintenance.
You can automate fuel surcharge updates for each StarTrack service you use, across StarTrack Express and Premium.
To start using StarTrack automated fuel surcharge updates, contact your Shippit account manager, or the Shippit configuration team.
Multi-article quoting
If you are using your StarTrack account with Shippit using internal rate cards, you can also turn on multi-article quoting. By default, your rate card applies a single rate to orders with more than one package, applying the rate to the total weight of the combined parcels. If you find that this leads to inaccuracies with your shipments, you can turn on multi-article quoting, and calculate the price of each individual parcel in an order instead.
You can use multi-article quoting for each StarTrack service you use, across StarTrack Express and Premium.
To start using StarTrack multi-article quoting, contact your Shippit account manager, or the Shippit configuration team.
Insurance
Complimentary loss or damage insurance is not included when booking with Australia Post through Shippit unless you have it included in your own BYO account. Alternatively, you can enable Shippit Transit Protection to cover your orders for loss and damage.

StarTrack Airlock
StarTrack Airlock works in the same way as StarTrack Premium, but orders shipped using the Airlock service require a recipient signature on delivery.
If you need to ensure that your orders are received only by the named recipient, use StarTrack Airlock to ensure that the driver hands the parcel only to an authorised person, and collects their signature on delivery as proof of delivery.
To enable StarTrack Airlock on your account, email the Shippit configuration team.
Activation
We currently only offer a BYO account configuration with StarTrack through Shippit, using your own BYO carrier account. To set up your integration, email the Shippit configuration team with these details:
