Mainfreight is a global supply chain logistics company providing managed warehousing, domestic and international freight forwarding, and air and ocean freight services.

πŸ’‘NOTE: Mainfreight NZ services are available for domestic shipments within New Zealand only. To be eligible to use a Mainfreight service, you must have a registered New Zealand entity address in your Shippit account.

Mainfreight NZ has an extensive network of over 300 branches globally, including many locations in New Zealand for both domestic and international deliveries.

Mainfreight NZ is suitable for:

  • Multi-parcel shipments

  • Heavy, bulky freight

  • Palletised and consolidated freight

  • Limited dangerous goods with prior approval (refer to the Dangerous goods section in this article)

  • Alcohol with prior approval

Mainfreight NZ is not suitable for:

  • Satchels and small fragile freight

  • Prohibited goods (refer to the Prohibited goods section in this article)

  • Unapproved dangerous goods (refer to the Dangerous goods section in this article)


Prohibited, restricted, and dangerous goods

This sections contains a current list of goods accepted in the Mainfreight NZ network, however this is subject to change. For the most up to date information always refer to their website.

Prohibited goods

  • Precious metals, precious stones, jewels, and pearls

  • Currency and negotiable instruments

  • Artworks, antiques, and official documents

  • Arms and ammunition

  • Radioactive substances

  • Gas canisters and nuclear fuels

  • Dangerous goods classes:

    • Class 1: Explosives (e.g., ammunition, fireworks, flares)

    • Class 2: Gases (excluding toxic gases)

    • Class 2.3: Toxic Gases (e.g., oxygen, acetylene)

    • Class 5.2: Organic Peroxides

    • Class 6: Toxic and Infectious Substances (e.g., pesticides, poisonous substances)

    • Class 6.2: Infectious Substances

    • Class 7: Radioactive Materials

  • Aerosols excluding medicinal or toiletry items

  • Hazardous chemicals: flammable liquids, solvents, and corrosives

  • Items with hazardous labels: any item with a hazardous material label

  • Items not properly packaged: any item not in its correct packaging or box

  • Items containing hazardous materials e.g car batteries, fire extinguishers

Dangerous goods

All dangerous goods must be approved by the carrier prior to activation and shipping.

Please speak with your Mainfreight NZ representative for approval directly.

Prohibited dangerous goods in the Mainfreight NZ network:

  • Class 1: Explosives (e.g., ammunition, fireworks, flares)

  • Class 2: Gases (excluding toxic gases)

  • Class 2.3: Toxic Gases (e.g., oxygen, acetylene)

  • Class 5.2: Organic Peroxides

  • Class 6: Toxic and Infectious Substances (e.g., pesticides, poisonous substances)

Packaging guidelines

Items should be wrapped in a way that will ensure safety for the delivery person and the customer. It is your responsibility to package items correctly. Packaging should comply with New Zealand consumer and transport laws.

Surcharges

Charges that can be identified at the time of booking are included in the API quote at the time of booking however additional surcharges may apply for undeclared goods or special goods.

Insurance

If you have insurance included in your own BYO account, this carries over with your BYO integration.

Alternatively, you can turn on Shippit Transit Protection to cover the retail value of your goods if lost or damaged during transit.

Activation

We currently only offer a BYO account configuration with Mainfreight NZ through Shippit, using your own BYO carrier account.

To set up your BYO integration, contact the Shippit Configuration Team with your account details. You will need to have all of your carrier account credentials ready.

Our team review your details and usually get back to you in 1-3 business days however BYO account activation can take 1-2 weeks to complete.
