New Zealand Couriers services are suitable for:

  • Small consumer goods and e-commerce products

  • Small homewares

  • Clothing and apparel

  • Food products excluding perishable goods

  • Limited dangerous goods with prior approval

  • Limited pharmaceutical and scheduled medications with prior approval

    • excluding schedule 8

  • Alcohol with prior approval

New Zealand Couriers services are not suitable for:

  • Bulky and palletised freight

  • Furniture

  • Unapproved goods

  • Schedule 8 medications and controlled drugs


Prohibited, restricted, and dangerous goods

This sections contains a current list of goods accepted in the New Zealand Couriers network, however this is subject to change. For the most up to date information always refer to their website.

  • Ammunition

  • Bicycles, unless boxed and undersized and approved

  • Body parts, people, human remains, cremation, ashes

  • Stocks or bonds

  • Bullion

  • Cabinets

  • Cash or coins

  • Negotiable Instruments, such as vouchers, travellers cheques)

  • Precious stones

  • Deer velvet

  • Whole engines and gear boxes

  • Explosives, such as matches, fire starters, or flares

  • Firearms, unless the firing mechanism travels separately and the National Operations Manager has approved

  • Containers previously used to contain dangerous goods, unless certified as empty

  • Flowers, plants, trees

  • Fuel tanks, new and unused unless certified as empty

  • Furniture

  • Helium balloons

  • Jewellery, cash, travellers cheques, cheques, bonds

  • Large whitewares and home appliances

  • Passports ,unless pre-approved

  • Wet batteries, such as those containing acid

Restricted goods

All restricted goods must have pre-approval from the carrier prior to activation and shipping.

  • Limited pharmaceutical and scheduled medications

    • excluding schedule 8

Dangerous goods

All dangerous goods must have pre-approval from the carrier prior to activation and shipping. Please always refer to the New Zealand Couriers dangerous goods policy.

Accepted dangerous goods in the New Zealand Couriers network include:

  • Class 2.1 Flammable gas - aerosols UN1950

    • Max weight/volume restriction per package = 25kg gross

    • Receptable not exceeding 1 litre

  • Class 2.2 Non-flammable gas - aerosols UN1950 and UN1044 fire extinguishers

    • Max weight/volume restriction per package = 25kg gross

    • Each individual Aerosol receptacle must be <1litre

  • Class 3 Flammable liquids - packing group II and III*

    • Max weight/volume restriction per package = 25 litres (outer packaging as well)

  • Class 4.1 Flammable solids - UN3175 isopropyl alcohol wipes*

    • Max weight/volume restriction per package = 25 litres (outer packaging as well)

  • Class 6.2 Infectious substances

    • Refer to Carriage of Infectious Substances Consignments

  • Class 8 Corrosive substances - UN2800 batteries

    • Max weight/volume restriction per package = 25kg gross

  • Class 9 Miscellaneous - packing group III

    • Max weight/volume restriction per package = 25kg gross / 25 litres

    • Provided no segregation from food Items

  • Class 9 Miscellaneous - lithium batteries UN3090, UN3091, U3480, UN3481

    • Packing group II only

    • Max weight/volume restriction per package = 25kg gross

Limited quantity dangerous goods, if shipped below the restricted thresholds below, do not require declaration as fully regulated dangerous goods however are applicable to specific label requirements.

Packaging guidelines

Items should be wrapped in a way that will ensure safety for the delivery person and the customer. It is your responsibility to package items correctly. Packaging should comply with New Zealand consumer and transport laws.

Surcharges

Charges that can be identified at the time of booking are included in the API quote at the time of booking however additional surcharges may apply for undeclared goods or special goods. For more information, see the Carrier surcharge article.


Insurance

If you have insurance included in your own BYO account, this carries over with your BYO integration.

Alternatively, you can turn on Shippit Transit Protection to cover the retail value of your goods if lost or damaged during transit.

Activation

Shippit account

We currently do not offer an New Zealand Couriers integration using Shippit rates.

Setting up a BYO account

To set up your BYO integration, contact the Shippit Configuration Team with your account details. You will need to have all of your carrier account credentials ready.

Our team review your details and usually get back to you in 1-3 business days however BYO account activation can take 1-2 weeks to complete.
