Prohibited, restricted, and dangerous goods

Below is a current list of goods currently restricted in the Asendia network however this is subject to change.

Please ensure you check which products are prohibited for your destination countries.

Prohibited goods

The objects listed below are forbidden whatever the chosen destination; however, some merchandise may be added to this list, for which import, or circulation are forbidden in a specific destination country. Asendia will not assume responsibility for any mistake or omission concerning these objects since the merchandise list is subject to frequent change.

  • Objects which, by their nature or conditioning, can present a risk for staff of Asendia or are likely to soil or damage the other shipments or the postal equipment

  • Drugs and mind-altering substances (authorized for shipments with a medical or scientific purpose in the countries where they are admitted)

  • Aerosols: spray paints, solvents, air fresheners, shaving, deodorants, body sprays, hair sprays, etc.

  • Batteries classed as dangerous goods by the latest edition of the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) Technical Instructions are prohibited. This includes electronic items sent with lithium ion/polymer/metal/alloy batteries, where the battery is not contained in electronic equipment. Lithium ion/polymer/metal/alloy batteries when sent contained in electronic equipment such as a mobile phone or digital camera are allowed in limited quantities.

  • Perishable biological substances, infectious or not

  • Living creatures, animals and reptiles as well as human and animal remains, including ashes • Obscene publications and unlawful indecent images

  • Explosive substances: Any chemical compound, mixture or device capable of producing an explosive or pyrotechnic effect with substantial instantaneous release of heat and gas is prohibited e.g. ammunition, fireworks, flares, fuses, etc.

  • Flammable liquids or solids: this includes mixtures of liquids or liquids containing solids in solution or suspension which give off a flammable vapor, but also solid materials which are liable to cause fire by friction, absorption of water, spontaneous chemical changes or retained heat from manufacturing or processing.

  • Hazardous materials, such as compressed gas, radioactive substances, corrosive liquids • Jewellery, precious metals, banknotes, bearer shares, gold or silver and other valuable items

Dangerous goods

Asendia currently does not support dangerous goods.


Duties and taxes

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Duties and taxes can vary from region to region, and depending on your own logistics configuration. Always check the full terms of carriage with your carrier, and the customs requirements for the country you are shipping to before you ship.

🇺🇸 To the United States of America

Asendia offers $0 DDP fees when shipping to the United States of America. If you are shipping to the United States of America, with a country of origin of either China or Hong Kong, you choose to use Asendia to act as the Importer of Record (IOR), reducing compliance and admin burden for merchants. 🇨🇦 To Canada

Asendia offers a 5% charge for DDP to Canada, on top of duties and taxes. For more information about international duties and taxes, see the Shipping DDP and DAP article.


Packaging guidelines

Items should be wrapped in a way that will ensure safety for the delivery person and the customer. It is your responsibility to package items correctly. Packaging should comply with consumer and transport laws.

You can refer to Shippit's Recommended Packaging Guidelines for more information.


Surcharges

Charges that can be identified at the time of booking are included in the API quote at the time of booking however additional surcharges may apply for undeclared goods or special goods. For more information, see the Carrier Surcharge Article.


Insurance

Complimentary loss or damage insurance is included when booking with Ascendia through Shippit’s account.

NOTE: BYO insurance is not applicable as we do not integrate BYO at present.

Complimentary insurance covers:

  • Items deemed lost in transit

  • Value up to $100AUD

Complimentary insurance does not cover:

  • Shipping fee, GST, excise, customer returns or replacements

Should you need to raise a claim for loss or damage please contact Shippit Support.

Alternatively, you can enable Shippit Transit Protection to cover the retail value of your goods if lost or damaged during transit.


Pickup and collection

This section contains general information about pickup and collection with Asendia.

Collection

Depending on your volume, your account will either be set up with ‘regular pickups’ or ‘adhoc pickups’.

Regular pickups

  • More than 10 orders per day

  • Daily pickups will be scheduled with the carrier with a dedicated pickup window

  • Automatic pickup requests will not be sent to the carrier as your schedule will be locked in

Adhoc pickups

  • Less than 10 per day

  • Daily pickups will not be scheduled with the carrier

  • Automatic pickup requests will be sent to the carrier upon manifesting

  • When orders are booked before 2pm, orders will be collected the following business day

  • There is a $15 surcharge per pickup when there is less than 10 orders

Collection issues

Please contact Shippit Support for any collection issues and our support team will engage with the carrier directly for assistance.

Cancelling orders

Cancel any orders directly from your Shippit account. This triggers a cancellation request to the carrier using an API call.

Collection timeframes

When orders are booked before 2pm usually the driver will present the same day, if not, the following business day.

If you have scheduled collections in place your driver will present in your 'collection window' as agreed to during activation.

Contacting drivers

You’re unable to contact drivers directly. Please contact Shippit Support should you require support with collection.

Futile charges

If you do not have scheduled collections in place and the driver is unable to collect any goods, futile fees will apply - refer to Surcharges.

Rebooking collection

If you have scheduled collections in place there is no need to rebook a collection as the driver will collect missed packages on the next collection day.

If you do not have scheduled collections in place and have not booked any new orders for collection, please contact Shippit Support for assistance with collection.

Delivery

This section contains general information about delivery with Asendia.

Missed deliveries

If a delivery attempt is unsuccessful, the parcel will be held at the last mile facility, and a calling card will be left for the recipient. The receiver then has the following options:

Reschedule delivery
​The recipient may request redelivery via the last mile carrier's website or by contacting them directly. This usually allows for one redelivery attempt to the original address.

Please note that this option is only available for the following destination: NZ. Additional charges may apply.

Redirect to a new address
​The recipient may also choose to redirect the parcel to a new address.
Please note that this option is only available for the following destination: NZ

If the parcel is not collected or redelivered within five calendar days, it will be returned to the Asendia facility in the destination country and marked as undeliverable. Once received, Asendia will notify the sender and await further instructions.

The sender may choose from the following options:

  • Return to origin (Australia warehouse). The sender may request the item be returned to their warehouse in Australia. This request must be submitted within five calendar days of Asendia’s notification. Return service charges will apply and will be invoiced accordingly.

  • Disposal. If no instructions are received within five calendar days of notification, the item will be disposed of.

Proof of delivery

Ascendia provides proof of delivery (POD) for international shipments however this is currently not available to view in Shippit tracking.

Shippit will record a completed delivery once we receive a ‘completed’ scan from the carrier which is visible in our Shippit tracking

If your POD is not available please contact Shippit Support for assistance.

Redelivery and redirection

Redelivery can be booked by the receiver online once a delivery attempt has been made and a card received. Redelivery to a new address can sometimes be booked by the receiver online to selected countries only.

Otherwise the package is held with the last-mile carrier for a selected number of days awaiting a redelivery booking. If the package is not booked for redelivery, it will be returned to the sender.

Goods are normally only held for a maximum of 5-7 days.

Return to sender

Return to sender (RTS) can be requested from the carrier however we must be able to reach the driver before delivery.

Once goods are delivered we’re unable to request return to sender. Please contact Shippit Support for assistance.

Parcel receivers can request help by clicking 'Get help' in your Shippit notifications.


Activation

You must have pre-approval before shipping with Asendia. Please contact our Configuration Team to get started.

We currently do not offer a BYO integration.
